The play "Tughlaq" is just not a play, it is the historical  segment of Mohammad bin tughla. This is correctly said by the great man Marcus Garvey.....

#Introduction of girish Ragunath karnad....

Girish Ragunath karnad is an Indian Actor,filmmaker,playwright and the famous  screenwriter.  He was born in matheran  in May  of 1938 and died in 2019 ‘s June 10 at Bangor. He is known for his best writing style in kannada. He  won great awards like jnanpith award and padma shri for his great efforts.

If we talk about his writings, they are…

 “Nagamandala”,”yagti “and” taledanda” are some remarkable works of karnad. But out of these the most famous that we talk about is “Tughlaq “ the play that took us to the life of real tughlaq and his kingdom. He ruled India in the 14th century. He ruled in Delhi  saltanat  for almost 26 years but all the years that he spent were like an autumn and spring season in his life. The main theme of this play is about foolishness and ideology, serculism  of tughlaq. 

But karnad present this man as the man of opposites ‘

#Opening of the play......

 The play starts with the opening of a court in Delhi, better known as the ‘court of justice', where a group of muslims  gather and share their different views on the ruling of the sultan and the decision he took.

#Decisions of tughlaq.....

There is the decision that was taken by the sultan for the betterment of Delhi but they turned out as the great loss of his own power and reputation. They are like…..

• Abolish jaziya tax from the hindus.

• The great one capital sifting from Delhi to daulatabad. 

• Praying five times is compulsory.

• Dreams of tughlaq. 

So there have been a lot of causes of failure of tughlaq but till then he cannot admit the facts that he made in his ruling on Delhi.  For that reason also he is known as the fool king.

The change of capital makes a lot of people's lives sorrowful. They do not rest properly and go on to daulatabad.The thing is  there  are situations where some reach the destination and some lose their life in the way of it.

 

#Ambitious king  a tughlaq 

Mohammad bin Tughla is a highly ambitious person and this makes him think about the country. And he as well as wants to be remembered by the future generations for his good deeds but all is lost.he said that…..

“I shall build an empire which be the envy of the world”

Karnad makes a great attempt to introduce us to politics and religion in this play.Tughlaq  is a philosophical man who knows the depth of everything but the people in which he lives did not understand him properly. He wants to make the world secular in which caste is just a word for everyone .Once he said it was presented by karnad…

“May the moment burn bright and light up our path towards greater justice,equality, progress and peace not peace bita more purposeful. “

#Secularism of tughlaq...

 He makes a great effort to make hindu muslims  together but all fails. The people are greatly frustrated with the rules of  tughlaq for that they ignore his all effort  and do as they want. But someone who recognised his goodness praised him by saying like a young man who stood in the crowd in front of the court….

"The country is perfectly in safe hands, safer than any you have seen before.”

There  is also a Aziz like character in the play who just  wants money and their well being for that they change their  getup also.

#Character of tughlaq  representation...

 Karnad represents very interesting facts about tughlaq in his play which we may not know .karnad not only took toward us the depth of tughlaq life how he feels and how society feels is also shown by him.so it is conclude that the play is not only historical but classic also.it is the second great creation of karnad.
